Module 1 – Introduction to Basic Hand Tools
At the end this module learners will be able to:
- Identify the tools (hand tools) in common use by engineering workers
- Describe the important aspects of safety with hand tools
- Describe the important aspects of tool maintenance
Module 2 – Choosing & Using Spanners
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
- Recognise and select open-ended, ring, combination and socket spanners
- Identify spanner sizes
- Use spanners correctly and safely
- Apply safety rules using spanners
Module 3 – Pliers & Grips
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
- Recognise popular types of pliers and grips
- Describe their purpose and applications
- Apply basic safety rules during use
- Maintain pliers and grips
Module 4 – Cutting Tools
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
- Use a hacksaw to cut metal in the correct manner (including blade selection)
- Maintain a hacksaw in good working order
- Select appropriate file for metal work
- Apply correct filing techniques to mild steel
- Apply necessary safety rules in filing
- Identify typical cold chisels
- Correctly use a conventional cold chisel
Module 5 – Screwdrivers
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
- Identify and select various screwdrivers
- Use screwdrivers in an efficient and safe manner
- Apply necessary safety rules with screwdrivers
Module 6 – Striking Tools
At the end of this module learners will be able to:
- Identify and select various hammers and mallets
- Use hammers in typical applications
